Learn Square Foot Gardening and watch gardening become fun.
Square Foot Gardening has changed how I look at gardening. It’s an easy gardening technique.
I’ve always helped with our family garden. I remember when I was little, every year in spring we would go out and work for hours and hours preparing a place for our fruits and vegetables to grow. While the end result was worth it (I mean who doesn’t love home grown tomatoes), it was the same routine year and year again.
Weeding, tilling the soil, bringing in things to improve the soil, weeding again and again and again.
Whew! All that work.
So when my husband and I bought our first home, I had to plant at least tomatoes. It was a treat I had come to look forward to every fall, but I hated all the work.
Our soil was all sand and it was going to be very expensive to improve its condition enough to grow anything, except of course weeds. Funny how they can grow in the worst of conditions, without water for months and months and still grow well, like weeds... Sorry I digress.
Anyway a friend had heard about this really simple method called Square Foot Gardening. It boasted about a garden with no weeding, no digging, no expensive gardening tools, and no confusing soil improvement year after year. Now I’m not an expert gardener, but come on, how could something that I’ve done all my life suddenly be so easy.
Mel Bartholomew's Square Foot Gardening method is genius. It uses a raised bed gardening box that you fill with a perfect blend of soil. Since the garden bed is raised above ground and new weed-free soil is brought in it eliminates all the hard work of traditional gardening.
I was thrilled! Not only could have the garden that I wanted, but to my surprise, my husband actually wanted to help.
Bonus!
We built the boxes, filled them up and planted much more then just tomatoes. Before, because of all the work, I was only willing to clear a space to plant tomatoes but with how easy this was we had ample space to try other vegetables and fruits. I haven’t weeded once. I didn’t once put a shovel in the ground and my organic garden is thriving and looks beautiful.
So here’s what this site will provide you with, 3 easy Steps:
